Women’s Equality Network (WEN) Wales has created this list of 100 Welsh Women to mark the centenary of the Representation of the People Act 1918. We wanted to celebrate the contribution these 100 women have made to our national life. The list comprises of 50 women from the past who made a big impact on Welsh life and 50 inspiring women who are currently shaping Wales.
From the first Welsh female MP, suffragettes, anti-slavery campaigners, poets and medical pioneers, a shortlist of five will be drawn from the 50 historical women by a panel. The public will then vote on which woman should be immortalised with a permanent statue on Central Square in Cardiff.
For now, we hope you will be inspired by the achievements of the 100 Welsh Women. Please do share the stories that inspire you most using #100WelshWomen and tag us @WENWales.
Know anyone who should be on the list?
To celebrate 100 years since women were first able to cast their vote in a UK general election, we’re opening up our 100 Welsh Women List to nominations.
We’re asking members of the public and organisations to submit their inspirational welsh women who should be added to the 50 Contemporary and 50 Historical women already on the list.
