EU Referendum Response

The Women’s Equality Network (WEN) Wales will be working to ensure that women’s voices are heard in the decision-making process following the outcome of the EU Referendum.

We don’t yet know what the UK’s new arrangements with Europe will look like and the negotiations are likely to take a long time. During this interim period, WEN Wales wants to work with our partner organisations, Welsh Government and the UK Government to:

• Ensure that women in Wales are equally represented in the creation of any new arrangements with the EU;

• Resist any potential weakening of women’s rights and equality legislation currently guaranteed by EU law;

• Take action to reduce the uncertainty for women who are EU migrants in Wales and ensure that they are treated fairly;

• Send a strong message that hate crime will not be tolerated in Wales and address any disproportionate impact these crimes may be having on women;

• Plan to mitigate the potential impact for an economic downturn in a country that has already been hit hard by austerity;

• Consider how EU funded projects that are currently benefiting women in Wales will be sustained in the event that the UK leaves the EU.

We want to see a Wales in which women are able to speak out, be heard and in which their contribution to all aspects of Welsh life is recognised and celebrated. Women must be equally represented at every level of decision making in Wales and have a strong role in shaping the future economy which so profoundly affects their lives. We want a confident Wales where social justice and equality are prioritised, and hate, fear and intolerance have no place in our social and cultural life.

We would love to hear your views on how this can be achieved.

The Women’s Equality Network will continue to stand up for women in Wales and work to ensure that the good progress made on women’s rights in the UK is continued and strengthened in any new arrangements.

We will work with the European Women’s Lobby (EWL), via our membership of the UK Joint Committee on Women (UKJCW) to continue to lobby for Welsh women at European level while the current arrangements are still in place. We will also explore new options for our continuing engagement with the EWL.

Bydd Rhwydwaith Cydraddoldeb Menywod (RhCM) Cymru yn gweithio i sicrhau bod lleisiau menywod yn cael eu clywed yn y broses o wneud penderfyniadau yn dilyn canlyniad  Refferendwm yr UE.

Nid ydym yn gwybod eto beth fydd y trefniadau newydd rhwng y DU ac Ewrop ac mae’r trafodaethau’n debygol o gymryd cryn amser. Yn y cyfamser, mae RhCM Cymru yn awyddus i weithio gyda’n sefydliadau partner, Llywodraeth Cymru a Llywodraeth y DU i:

• Sicrhau bod menywod yng Nghymru yn cael eu cynrychioli’n gyfartal wrth greu unrhyw drefniadau newydd gyda’r UE;

• Gwrthsefyll unrhyw bosibilrwydd o wanhau hawliau menywod a deddfwriaeth cydraddoldeb sy’n cael eu gwarantu gan gyfraith yr UE ar hyn o bryd;

• Cymryd camau i leihau’r ansicrwydd ar gyfer menywod sy’n ymfudwyr yr UE yng Nghymru a sicrhau eu bod yn cael eu trin yn deg;

• Anfon neges gref na fydd troseddau casineb yn cael eu goddef yng Nghymru a mynd i’r afael ag unrhyw effaith anghymesur ar fenywod yn sgil y torseddau hyn;

• Cynllunio i liniaru effaith bosibl dirywiad economaidd mewn gwlad sydd eisoes wedi dioddef yn enbyd yn sgil cyni;

• Ystyried sut y bydd prosiectau presennol a ariennir gan yr UE ac sydd o fudd i fenywod yng Nghymru yn cael eu cynnal os bydd y DU yn gadael yr UE.

Rydym am weld Cymru lle mae menywod yn gallu codi eu lleisiau, cael eu clywed a lle mae eu cyfraniad at bob agwedd ar fywyd Cymru yn cael ei gydnabod a’i ddathlu. Rhaid i fenywod gael eu cynrychioli’n gyfartal ar bob lefel o’r broses benderfynu yng Nghymru a chael rôl gref wrth lunio economi’r dyfodol sy’n cael effaith mor ddwfn ar eu bywydau. Rydym am greu Cymru hyderus lle mae cyfiawnder cymdeithasol a chydraddoldeb yn cael eu blaenoriaethu, a lle nad oes lle i gasineb, ofn ac anoddefgarwch yn ein bywyd cymdeithasol a diwylliannol.

Byddem wrth ein bodd clywed eich barn am sut y gellir cyflawni hyn.

Bydd y Rhwydwaith Cydraddoldeb Menywod yn parhau i ymladd dros fenywod yng Nghymru a gweithio i sicrhau bod y cynnydd da ar hawliau menywod yn y DU yn parhau ac yn cael ei gryfhau mewn unrhyw drefniadau newydd.

Byddwn yn gweithio gyda’r Lobi Menywod Ewropeaidd (EWL), drwy ein haelodaeth o Gyd-bwyllgor y DU ar Fenywod (UKJCW) gan barhau i lobïo ar ran menywod yng Nghymru ar lefel Ewropeaidd tra bod y trefniadau presennol yn dal ar waith. Byddwn hefyd yn ymchwilio i opsiynau newydd ar gyfer ein hymgysylltiad parhaus â’r EWL.
